Many retail businesses enjoy their busiest periods in the run-up to Christmas. But in some ways we at AFriendinNeed.co.uk rather hope we don’t receive too many orders over the next couple of weeks.
From our website we send gifts to people in hospital on behalf of friends and family who unfortunately are not able to visit in person. So anyone we send a gift to in the next few days is likely to be unfortunate enough to be spending Christmas in hospital.
Let’s hope not too many people find themselves in hospital over the festive period.
I have myself succumbed to illness this week – in the form of the flu (I think!) It really is very debilitating, and lying in bed all day just makes me annoyed about how much time I’m wasting.
One thing I have found helpful is doing the odd puzzle. It seems to keep my mind active, for a few minutes at least. Mind over matter - very therapeutic!
I feel I can now sympathise better with patients in hospital who can spend days on end lying in bed with very little to keep their minds alert.
At our website, AFriendinNeed.co.uk we send gifts to people in hospital on behalf of friends and family who unfortunately are not able to visit in person. Among the more popular gifts is our range of puzzles and games – and now I understand why!
We are not sure of the exact reason, but we’ve recently noticed an increase in the number of puzzles and games we’re selling.
Now Christmas is approaching of course, but what we specialise in at AFriendinNeed.co.uk is sending gifts to people in hospital on behalf of friends and family who unfortunately cannot visit in person. And you might not expect very much seasonal variation in the kind of gifts that appeal to patients in hospital.
Perhaps it’s simply that, because everyone is beginning to think of the sort of gifts we traditionally exchange at Christmas, hospital gifts have got in on the act too.
It does seem to make a lot of sense, though. Patients often end up lying in bed for hours on end with absolutely nothing to do. As friends and relatives, we can help a lot by taking or sending them gifts designed to keep their minds engaged, such as puzzles and games and also things like writing sets and cross stitch kits.
We’ve tried to design the product range at AFriendinNeed.co.uk to include gifts like this, as well as the more obvious chocolates, cuddly toys and silk flowers.
